The ‘Government for a Day‘ workshop was both interactive and informative. Students at Stepney Green School were thoroughly engaged, and were able to contribute to every single discussion. It helped the sixth form students broaden their knowledge about current affairs and they left the workshop feeling confident about their political literacy. This most definitely helped promote active citizenship to students, and I will happily be booking with Political Education For Students again.
Nazerine Noorani (Deputy Head of Post-16), Stepney Green School, London.
One of the best things about our interactive, role playing student workshops is that they are incredibly flexible for the needs of each individual school. So, it was no problem at all when Stepney Green Community School wanted all of the benefits of our “Government For A Day” workshop – just condensed in to one hour! It was an absolute pleasure working with 100 Year 12 students in their weekly ‘Personal Development’ lesson.
As always, we speak to schools and teachers in advance of delivering our politics workshops. This meant that we were able to find out which bits of the whole day version the school really wanted. We were, as a result, able to explain to students how governments are formed; we debated three current and recent political issues as Cabinet ministers and finally reflected upon the importance of government in our democratic nation. All in an hour! We moved very quickly, helped by the great engagement and enthusiasm of the Year 12 students.
Students worked exceptionally well, really debating these fundamental political issues whilst being pushed in terms of timing. It really added that extra challenge, forcing students to really be clear and concise with their political arguments. I was especially impressed with some of the Prime Ministers who managed their Cabinet with clear, respectful and authoritative leadership.
So, if you like the look of our “Government For A Day” session but don’t have a whole day to devote to it, fear not. We are more than happy to discuss different length versions that will be suitable for your needs.
I am delighted that Stepney Green Community School now wish to use this service on an annual basis and have already enquired about dates for their 2017 session.
